CAPTAIN SEGAL

Marc Segal has spent his life in service to others. For more than 41 years, he served with the Los Angeles Fire Department, working much of his career as a paramedic and later as an EMS Battalion Captain.

Before that, he began his journey in public safety with the Whittier Police Department, where two formative years deepened his commitment to protecting and serving his community.

Across those decades, Marc responded to tens of thousands of emergencies—moments that carried stories of sacrifice, resilience, and the fragile line between life and loss. Colleagues, friends, and family often urged him to share the lessons and stories born from that work. His response is The Crucible of a Man, a deeply personal novel that explores family, loyalty, danger, and the enduring bonds forged in service.

Beyond the uniform, Marc is a husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Robyn, share a blended family of five children and eleven grandchildren. Together, they make their home in the small coastal town of San Clemente, California, where they enjoy traveling, scuba diving, and time with family. At home, you’ll often find them relaxing by the ocean or with their loyal Labrador retriever, Tucker, never far from their side.

On the fireground, the building will try to kill you in the first five minutes.
If it doesn’t succeed, it’ll try again in the last five.
